Inspiring The Squeegee Community to Embrace Entrepreneurship

On Friday, January 6th, I volunteered time to offer resources and mentorship to people from the Baltimore City squeegee community at the Mayor’s Playbook Kick-Off event. I’ve been an active contributor to the Mayor’s Squeegee Collaborative. The goal of this event was to offer Baltimore youth help with careers, personal development, and more. Local businesses were present for interviews or to provide free services. Most of the attendees from the community were looking for jobs, but I believe they can do more. Squeegeeing car windows outside in all weather conditions takes perseverance and dedication. It also requires an entrepreneurial mind. Traditional entrepreneurs are often celebrated for their ability to navigate tough times and tenaciously produce revenue. If we taught people how to fish and where to fish, we wouldn’t have to give out so many fish to people in need. With that in mind, I believe we can tap into the talent of our youth on our Baltimore City streets to develop micro-businesses that will sustain their lives and keep them out of busy intersections. I wasn’t participating in the event as a representative of Revival Baltimore, but for personal reasons instead.

Check out the interview and full article by Lisa Robinson of WBAL 11 during the event. I am at the end of the video, so be patient. Let me know your thoughts.
